Her first few weeks were spent getting to know the team, understanding Each’s services, and seeing first-hand how thoughtful design can connect communities with the support they need.
Before long, she was contributing to a wide range of projects, including designing illustrations, updating marketing materials, and getting behind the camera for photo shoots.
Ebony explained that one of her favourite tasks so far has been developing design templates for teams to use across the organisation, whether to promote local events or share important information with customers.
"It's rewarding to know that something I've designed can help streamline workflows, save time and create a more consistent experience across the team," she said.
By the end of her placement, Ebony had gained the practical experience she was looking for. But rather than marking the end of her journey with Each, it became the start of a new chapter.
“I decided to continue volunteering after my work experience placement ended because I genuinely enjoyed being part of the team and wanted to keep contributing.
“I found the work meaningful, especially knowing that what I was doing was helpful to both staff and the wider community.
Since then, Ebony has continued building her skills and taking on new creative opportunities. One of the highlights has been seeing her designs come to life in large campaigns, including artwork displayed on bus shelters along major roads.
“It was incredibly rewarding to see my designs used in real world campaigns. Knowing that my work was reaching so many people made me feel proud and gave me even more confidence in my abilities as a designer.
When asked what she would like other students to know about work experience placements at Each, Ebony encouraged them to put themselves out there and give it a go.
"I'd encourage them to take the opportunity, even if it feels a little outside your comfort zone. You never know where it might lead. It helped me build my confidence, develop new capabilities and gave me experiences I'll always be proud of.”
