Between managing appointments, navigating services, providing emotional support and balancing everyday responsibilities, unpaid carers carry a significant weight each day.
However, much of this work happens behind the scenes, making it easy for even those close to them to underestimate the challenges they face.
That's why our Family Relationship Support for Carers (FRSC) team runs free Carers Nature Connection events, bringing people with shared experiences together in a welcoming and supportive environment.
These gatherings offer carers the opportunity to connect, talk about things that may be difficult to discuss elsewhere, and find reassurance that what they're feeling is normal.
Recently, one participant shared that, as a parent caring for her son, she feels pressure when friends and family ask how he's doing. While these questions may come from a good place, they often leave her feeling misunderstood or or judged by people who haven’t walked in her shoes.
At the Carers Nature Connection morning tea, she found something different.
Surrounded by the beauty of the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and the company of other carers, she was able to have real conversations and, for the first time in a while, felt seen and heard.
"Connection with other Carers in a safe, non-threatening environment where we could all take our own observations of nature and life and express them without being lectured, or told how we could have done better.”
"I am really enjoying the opportunities to get out to see nature with FRSC."
At Each, we're honoured to help create moments like these, where carers can take time for themselves and find comfort in connection.
